The Genesian Theatre Company is proud to welcome audiences to its new home at the former St Joseph’s Church Hall, 2B Gordon Street, Rozelle.
Officially opened by Bishop Danny Meagher and Inner West Council Mayor Darcy Byrne on 5 December 2024, the brand-new Genesian Theatre will house the company for many years to come.
We need your support!
While the theatre has opened to the public, there is still a significant amount of work required to bring the new space in line with the needs of today’s patrons. We are appealing to the Sydney community for help raising the funds necessary to complete the project.
Donate today to ensure the Genesian can continue to produce good quality, affordable theatre well into the future.
Prior to the opening of the new Genesian Theatre in Rozelle, the company operated from an historic Church located in the heart of Sydney’s CBD.
For 70 years, the converted Church stage was home to the Genesian Theatre Company, showcasing the talents of some of Australian theatre’s brightest new stars, and providing a training ground in both the performative and technical aspects of live theatre.
However, the sale in 2017 and subsequent planned development of the site at 420 Kent St (and the accompanying buildings) meant the company was forced to find a new home.
With the support of the Sydney Archdiocese a location was found, and the Genesian Theatre Company signed a long term lease for the Church hall at Rozelle. A complete re-fit of the property began in May 2024 and concluded in November 2024.
The Genesian Theatre Company is seeking interest from local businesses to work in partnership to deliver a variety of services. Please email president@genesiantheatre.com.au to discuss these opportunities.
There are a range of sponsorship packages available for organisations interested in advertising to the Genesian patrons. Please email president@genesiantheatre.com.au to discuss these opportunities.
Almost all aspects of the Genesian Theatre operate on a volunteer basis, including set construction, front of house, publicity and more. If you are interested in volunteering time to assist the Company, please email membership@genesiantheatre.com.au to discuss these opportunities.
